Happy Boys' Day! Often the holiday overshadowed by Cinco de Mayo, Boys' Day is a national Japanese holiday that celebrates the growth and development, health and wellness of boys.
In honor of Boys' Day, carp streamers fly across Japan - and in HI too! - representing the boys in the family. Stories tell us that the carp is the chosen flag as carp are the strongest, most resilient fish, and strongest in spirit. Thus is it chosen as the representation of the young males to symbolize their strength and ability to lead and overcome life's obstacles.
To all the women out there, be nice to men and boys today. Children across the state of Hawai'i are putting up the boys' chairs afterschool as an act of kindness to their male friends in honor of this day to celebrate the boys.
Fear not, ladies of this world, Girls' Day is March 3rd!
