Just today a friend pulled out a newspaper article from the LA Times on July 26, 2009. She handed me the article and said, "Read this - for 365." Perfect timing!
If you have a moment, please read this article, "Santa Monica's heart revolved around it," the story of the historic carousel housed in the Looff Hippodrome on the Santa Monica Pier. The story of the carousel is the story of the city.
The highlighted paragraph for us all to learn from says this, "The Roths, who build and maintain wooden facades for Disney and other clients, have added a "guest animal" to the carousel. Recently it was a rabbit. Next comes a dinosaur, a triceratops. Though a newly constructed unpainted horse is part of the circling herd, it's there as a learning tool, to show visitors how the carousel animals are carved. Out of respect to the original horses, a new equine will never be added."
